A FEW THINGS TO KNOW & EXPECT
China Peak makes learning to ski or snowboard easier than ever before.
Here are tips and what to do when you arrive:
It's always more fun to try new things with a friend or family, so grab one or more others to join you on your first day.
As you arrive at China Peak, park in the back lots. Walk across the bridge and head to the Main Ticket Building straight ahead. Come inside and we'll take care of everything from there.
You don't need a lot of fancy or expensive clothing to start off. A warm jacket, pants, gloves, hat and either sunglasses or goggles and you're good to go. Only wear one pair of socks, preferably a warm pair. Dress in layers so you can remove clothing if you get too warm (it happens even in the snow!).
Don't look for miracles the first day. While learning to ski or snowboard is not difficult, it does take a few days to get the hang of it, like any sport that's really worthwhile. Some people get the hang of it quickly, some take a little longer. Don't get frustrated if you aren't making huge progress the first day; by day two or three, nearly everyone is making turns, getting on and off the lift easily, enjoying the mid mountain ski runs.
Remember you're at 7,000 feet elevation, so breathing becomes a little heavier. Give yourself a little more time to do things, it's not a race.
Skiing and snowboarding are activities you will enjoy for decades with family and friends. It is truly one of the greatest ways to celebrate winter. Once you get over the hump of learning the basics you'll experience what it's like to be a real skier or rider!
